On Saturday, April 20th, 2013, the Bytown Fire Brigade will be holding their annual Dinner and Auction at the Hampton Inn in Ottawa.

The Bytown Fire Brigade was created in the early 1980’s to help preserve the fire heritage and history of Canada. Incorporated in 1983, the “Bytown Fire Brigade” is a federally registered, tax-exempt, non-profit historical society, comprised entirely of volunteers with an elected President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The goal of the Brigade is to acquire, restore, preserve and display the artifacts and apparatus that tell the story of firefighting in Canada’s capital and the country as a whole.

The Brigade has a large collection of antique fire apparatus both motorized and non motorized. The first piece of fire apparatus acquired by the Brigade was an 1886 horse-drawn Silsby Steamer purchased in 1984. Over the years, the Brigade has invested considerable money and time in restoring this historical piece, a project that is still ongoing. The Brigade owns four antique fire trucks dating back to 1921. It also owns many hand-drawn pieces of fire apparatus dating back to the 1840s, as well as countless smaller artifacts and photographs.

This is one of the Brigade’s biggest fund raising efforts and they need your support.

To order tickets please contact Mr. John Carriere at (613) 837 9088 or Mr. Peter Ryan at (613) 692 7625.

In support of the “Do It For Darren” program to raise awareness around youth mental health issues in honour of Darren Richardson, Team Fire took 3rd place in overall Team fundraising and beat both the Police and Team Paramedics in the EPS fundraising challenge! A special thanks to Matt Moffitt from Station 83 who was Team Fire’s top fundraiser for the 2nd year in a row! And congrats to Mark Halayko for being a very close 2nd! Team Fire had the most participants out of all 3 Emergency Service Branches (Team Fire had 71! Police had 66, Paramedics 64). In addition, Team Fire WON the Chief’s Chilli Cook-off….AGAIN! Congrats Chief Pingitore for making the winning chilli and securing bragging rights for a 2nd straight year. The new Start/Finish line truss along with the Canadian Flag & Ladder trucks made for a memorable Start/Finish line. Thanks to Captain Matt Golden, the crew of L81 and the crew from 46C for helping to make that a huge success! Sparky was on site and was a tremendous hit with the kids to round out a very successful event!
A special thank you to Kendra Shaw of Ottawa Fire Service’s Administrative Branch, 9RunRun “Team Fire” Captain and 9RunRun Committee member.
