Professor Elizabeth Weckman – University of Waterloo (Canada)
Beth Weckman is a Professor of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and Co-ordinator of the Fire Safety Graduate Program at the University of Waterloo. For over 25 years, Prof. Weckman has been engaged in research, analysis and modeling of fire behavior. Joint research and training exercises with the fire service have investigated early fire growth and smoke movement in residential structures, radiation from fires, gas explosions, fire suppression and ventilation techniques. Additional insights into materials fire performance and structural fire behaviour have been gained using small-scale laboratory experiments through to large field studies, with the data also employed for validation/comparison with detailed computational models of various fire scenarios. Prof. Weckman is an active member of the Combustion Institute, as well as technical societies such as SFPE, NFPA, ASTM and IAAI.
